Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. ”

Curriculum & Instruction

I want to help people be able to play the songs they love!

I encourage my students to use improvisation, write their own songs, think critically, express themselves, and practice creative freedom. At the same time I give them a solid structure and foundation in technique and music theory.  In this philosophy lies a tremendous amount of freedom that I have observed to build students’ self-esteem and instill confidence.

My teaching is centered around  self-expression and creative freedom.  This way the discipline that is required to learn any art form is  born out of joy, discovery, and self-motivation.  I infuse expressive arts into my teaching often incorporating movement and art.

My approach combines classical technique mixed with a contemporary learning style that is applicable to modern day music making.  I help students set their own actionable goals that fit within their time frame and pace of learning.  I love to use visuals and colors to help see the patterns in music.  Whether you want to learn to read notes, or play your favorite song by ear, I can teach both!
